Entry way to the Alternative High School

The Methow Valley Independent Learning Center, the Methow Valley School District's alternative high school, is located in Twisp, next door to the Community Center. It is an individualized, self-paced program that offers a standard Washington State diploma. As with all other Washington State high school students, the alternative school students are required to pass the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in order to receive a diploma. Scores from that test are recorded on their transcripts.

The school day officially runs from 9am to 2pm, with a teacher present during regular school hours, 8am to 3:45pm. Students may ride the school buses, take part in extracurricular activities at Liberty Bell High School, and receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch, if qualified by income. They may also register in classes at Liberty Bell for part of the day if they so desire. Many students take traffic safety classes there, for example.

The curriculum at the alternative school is approved by the board of directors and open to inspection by parents/guardians. Students sign a contract for time on-site and records are kept that detail the status and progress of each student. All students must update current homework and test information on a weekly basis and sign a monthly progress report. Parents/guardians are expected to attend official student-parent-teacher conferences at the end of each quarter and are welcome to visit the school and/or call with questions of comments.
